Whitetail Properties Real Estate of Pennsylvania has been instrumental in both it's generosity as well as mentorship for Gear for Deer.  Thanks to Jack Brown, his associates and sales staff, we have made tremendous strides in attaining our annual goal and in fulfilling Woody's mission.

Woody's Mission

It is the mission of the Gear for Deer program to provide hunting apparel for new hunters to the sport in an effort to encourage them and their adult mentors to actively pursue game in comfort and safety.

WHITETAIL DEER

It is every PA hunter's dream to pursue our state animal. Preseason scouting and the right gear increase success!

Upland Bird Hunting

Precision, stamina and discipline are required by both hunter and hound alike in pursuit of pheasants, grouse, woodcock, and even antler sheds!

Eastern Wild Turkey

Few experiences can top hearing the thunder of a gobble in the spring!  Proper gear, proper identification and nerves of steel add to a memorable experience. The ultimate calling and  hunting experience!
Seasons and ever-changing hunting conditions necessitate flexibility in choosing the right gear for the right hunt.  For a family new to hunting, the expense can be overwhelming and intimidating.  Gear for Deer aims to lessen that burden and allow families to concentrate on the hunt itself.

Fundraising

Gear for Deer
Gear for Deer Incorporated is now a registered non-profit, charitable 501(c) 3 organization.  If you would like to donate to Gear for Deer, you may send checks made payable to "Gear for Deer" and send them to 131 Skyview Drive Greensburg, PA 15601.  We will be adding "pay apps" to the website in the future.  Also, refer to our sponsorship page for additional information (page under currently construction).

How it works

Qualifying for Gear
The focus for 2025 is to raise funds for those Pennsylvania Junior Resident Hunters who have successfully completed their HTE course AND who have purchased a valid hunting license in PA for the 2025-26 licensure year.  As this is a pilot program before it is widely expanded, students who have completed the in-person HTE course at YSA in 2025 are eligible.  Once this year is under our belt, additional clubs will be added to the list.

what hunters receive

The Gear
The coordinators of the program will send out invitations for the program and will request clothing sizes for the following apparel:
- Boots, pants, shirt, jacket/outerwear, gloves, socks, orange vest, orange hat, and more as funding allows
- Dunham's Sporting Goods in Latrobe, PA has been generous enough  to help us secure the gear.

2026 -27 fundraisers

After an extremely positive first year that exceeded expectations, we are now working feverishly  for the 2026-27 campaign year.  Our Board of Directors is in place and we have received our 501(c)3 charitable, non-profit designation!  We will be conducting fundraisers as the year progresses, so if you are in the mood to take a shot at cash, guns and more, please stay tuned and check this site often.

We are also in the process of organizing sponsorship  opportunities for individuals and businesses.  Information on sponsorships will be posted here and will also be available on Facebook.
