Whitetail Properties Real Estate of Pennsylvania has been instrumental in both it's generosity as well as mentorship for Gear for Deer.  Thanks to Jack Brown, his associates and sales staff, we have made tremendous strides in attaining our annual goal and in fulfilling Woody's mission.

What a difference a grouse can make! After visiting Unity Printing and seeing two ruffed grouse prints, an entire new world with tremendous opportunities was opened up to us!  Thanks to their generosity and connections, Gear for Deer is thrilled to be partnering with Unity Printing to help meet our needs!  Thank you Ashley & Joe Frederick!

A&C Property Holdings, LLC is our newest sponsor.  One fateful day in archery season, a forlorn hunter was seen walking the road near Youngwood, PA.  Recognizing that defeated look that all archery hunters experience, the helpful hand of one of our board members was extended.  After an arduous search and following a fading blood trail, the antlered deer was found.  Because of this experience, a lasting bond was established.  A&C Property Holdings has never forgotten this and continues to be in Woody's corner!

2026 -27 fundraisers

After an extremely positive first year that exceeded expectations, we are now working feverishly  for the 2026-27 campaign year.  Our Board of Directors is in place and we have received our 501(c)3 charitable, non-profit designation!  We will be conducting fundraisers as the year progresses, so if you are in the mood to take a shot at cash, guns and more, please stay tuned and check this site often.

Mother's Day Cash Give-Away: Sunday, May 10, 2026 - Based on the PA Pick 3 evening drawing, we have a ticket worth $1000 to be given away on Mother's Day.  For a $5 donation, you will receive one chance.  If you would like a ticket, please email us or call a board member.

Come see us at Total Archery Challenge at Seven Springs May 28-31, 2026.

Second Amendment Jamboree/2A-Day at Youngwood Sportsmen's Association - Saturday, August 8, 2026.  This event is free and open to the public.  Please consider attending and bringing friends and family in a Second Amendment celebration.

Woody is now accepting donations via PayPal (Gear for Deer Incorporated) and Venmo (@gearfordeer)!

Woody's Mission

It is the mission of the Gear for Deer program to provide hunting apparel for new hunters to the sport in an effort to encourage them and their adult mentors to actively pursue game in comfort and safety.
Seasons and ever-changing hunting conditions necessitate flexibility in choosing the right gear for the right hunt.  For a family new to hunting, the expense can be overwhelming and intimidating.  Gear for Deer aims to lessen that burden and allow families to concentrate on the hunt itself.

How it works

Qualifying for Gear
The goal for 2026 is to recognize those junior resident hunters who successfully passed their HTE course and purchase a hunting license for 2026-27.  We are expanding beyond YSA in the hopes of raising funds to outfit 40 new hunters in hunting apparel.  If you know of a sportsman's club that offers HTE in or around Westmoreland County, encourage them to contact us so we may invite the HTE students between 12-16 to participate!

what hunters receive

- Boots, pants, shirt, jacket/outerwear, gloves, socks, orange vest, orange hat, and more as funding allows
- Dunham's Sporting Goods in Latrobe, PA has been generous enough  to help us secure the gear.
